Principal Software Engineer - PORT ecosystem 80 - 100 % (m/f/d)

We're looking for a passionate out-of-the-box big-picture thinker who wants to shape the future of seamless indoor mobility solutions. Drive the architecture of our current and future PORT ecosystem spanning from embedded software up to cloud. Design, evaluate, specify, and develop PORT software components as part of an international, globally distributed software engineering team.

The PORT ecosystem is a key element of Schindler’s ambition to be the leading provider of seamless indoor mobility solutions. In order to drive and further improve the development and delivery of best-in-class offerings providing delightful experiences and differentiating features a strong and future orientated software architecture is key. The PORT software architect will interface between various internal stakeholders as well as internal and external development teams. Key responsibilities include:

 

  • Drive and ensure future-proven software architecture for the PORT ecosystem in accordance with the Schindler strategy
  • Partner with various stakeholders to identify architecturally significant requirements and shape architecture vision and technology roadmap
  • Evaluate, benchmark, and specify distributed software services (embedded, cloud, PC)
  • Interact with product owners and development teams in terms of software architectural decisions (cloud, mobile app, embedded software, network communication)
  • Design and implement highly concurrent and efficient software components
  • Technically lead and collaborate with team colleagues locally and remotely, e.g. design new functions and perform code reviews
  • Ensure quality of implemented functionality by collaborating with requirement engineers and testers as well as implementing automated tests and continuous integration

Further requirements may include:

 

  • Degree in computer science and/or software development
  • Proven experience in design and evaluation of complex, distributed embedded software-intensive systems
  • Proven track record in leading a software engineering team technically and experience in identifying requirements, deriving software designs, and making trade-off decisions
  • Programming and markup languages: C++, Python, HTML5, CSS, Objective-C, Java  Databases, SQLite, MySQL, Redis
  • Understanding of secure development practices and principles and of various architecture and design principles and technologies
  • Well versed in working with modern software development tools (e.g., Git and JIRA) and Agile development practices
