Project Manager - Toronto

Mobility is the goal

Primary Function 

The Project Manager is responsible for managing the initiation, planning, execution, control and close-out phases of new installation and modernization projects. An emphasis will be placed on the management of large construction projects. 


Project Planning

  • Actively manage the project to ensure that project outputs are being delivered on schedule, to budget and to the required quality, all in alignment with contractual commitments, and terms and conditions
  • Build a risk register and manage risk through mitigation measures for the project life cycle
  • Plan and execute work procedures, including Project Execution Process, Project schedule, Work Breakdown Structure, and resource planning through all the project phases
  • Develop and maintain Project Schedule on MS Project and establish control measures through weekly reviews and active coordination to prevent delays and keep project on schedule
  • Control and monitor project performance and update SAP and Project Planner to ensure all major project milestone dates are met
  • Coordinate procurement of parts and materials, and track delivery to ensure timely arrival at jobsite

Financial Management

  • Prepare and monitor budgets, and control project cost
  • Ensure project billings are current and accurate, and review supplier invoices to ensure accuracy and coding to proper accounts
  • Issue and review change orders, substantiate claims by validating entitlement, and ensure additional work is properly completed
  • Forecast monthly revenue, monthly financial reporting and client invoicing

Health and Safety, and Communication

  • Document health and safety requirements on a project level and communicate accordingly
  • Confer with supervisory personnel and provide direction to field technicians
  • Prepare and send project documents and correspondence
  • Maintain all documentation required by Schindler Policies and TSSA

Customer Service

  • Interpret customer concerns and mobilize the necessary internal resources in such a way that customer satisfaction is assured while costs are minimized
  • Ensure customer needs or enquires are met in a prompt, professional manner by providing clear communications.
  • Serve as a Company representative at regular site meetings, and maintain project documentation and correspondence with customer
  • Interpret project specifications through communication with customers both internal and external including architects, general contractors and other trades

Technical Support

  • Inspect work in progress to ensure installation conforms to specifications and adheres to construction schedules
  • Consult with project personnel to provide technical advice and to resolve issues
  • Review and submit Engineering drawings and coordinate customer reviews and comment disposition by Schindler Engineering
  • Confer with employees, inspectors and third-party suppliers to resolve problems and improve construction methods
  • Ensure action is taken to correct regulatory directives within timeframe allowed

Process Management, Reporting and Administration

  • Plan, monitor and control regulatory submission process to meet project schedule
  • Ensure that all project data is kept up-to-date and accurate for reporting and auditing purposes
  • Prepare various sales/analysis reports and presentations
  • Prepare operation and maintenance manuals
  • Develop and maintain safe and streamlined work procedures and systems

Mobility needs you


  • Post Secondary Education in related field (i.e. technical) or related experience
  • Certification in Project Management, and/or Project Management experience

Critical Skills 

  • Proficient in MS Office
  • Proficient in MS Project
  • Knowledge of SAP reporting functions
  • Knowledge of project management web-tools, ie. e-builder, E-Construction
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Organization: Possess excellent organization skills with the ability to balance high volume of activities and changing priorities
  • Problem Solving: Information seeking and achievement orientation, ability to solve problems both independently and collaboratively  
  • Teamwork: Ability to interact with all levels and foster a teamwork relationship
