Head of Accounting & Reporting

We have an exciting opportunity for an ambitious and proven Head of Accounting & Reporting to lead a key part of our Finance organisation covering management accounting, treasury, tax, account payables, group reporting, statutory reporting and consolidation activities. This role also covers the operational finance & controlling requirements of the dual brand(s).

 

Reporting to the CFO, this role owns key external banking & statutory interfaces and Group Accounting & Reporting relationships; and is responsible for the administrative financial activities and delivering fiscal requirements of the company and all its legal entities. These activities must be executed in alignment with the local legal norms and the internal norms of the Schindler Group, to fulfil the required financial reporting obligations to internal and external stakeholders.As a member of the CFO’s senior management team, this is one of the key roles facilitating the implementation and maintenance of the strategic tone of the CFO and the rest of the UKC Executive Management Team. The role is an excellent opportunity for you to expand your existing skills in a large, global organisation within a territory that gets a lot of attention from the Europe Zone it reports into, as well as the Group Top Management. Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Safeguarding and preparation of the closing and the financial statements reflecting the true picture of the company performance; in accordance with the Financial Shared Services (FSS) / Centre of Excellence (CoE) activities and timetable
  • Accurate and timely delivery of monthly management accounts and other cycle outcomes (e.g budget submissions); on Group reporting platforms fully meeting group requirements
  • Manage and monitor the general ledger and all subledgers (including but not exclusive to accounts receivables, accounts payable, accruals, provisions, inventory, fixed assets, intercompany) according to the local legal need
  • Management of Structural Costs (Overheads) and ensure no gaps in recognition of appropriate and recurring costs, including but not limited to provisions and prepayments. Proactive liaison required with the Finance controlling team in ensuring overheads are well managed versus budget
  • Ensure we have a robust Balance Sheet making Risks & Opportunities known in a formalised and timely manner
  • Prepare and analyse the various financial statements (P&L and Balance Sheet) and information from reporting both to Group and local stakeholders as required
  • Owns and controls Investment / Capex budget and governance process
  • Fulfil all fiscal obligations regarding the safekeeping of accounting information for regulatory reasons including tax purposes; and archiving of the financial books
  • Has oversight of the Payroll, Pensions and Expenses, and their associated processes and systems
  • Establish management accounts (MR and GMR) according to MARS norms (Schindler Group principles)
  • Classify income and expenses by orders, product lines, and cost centres and allocate recovery gaps together with controlling for clear group reporting requirements
  • Ensure all group reporting obligations are met; and leadership of any change programmes related to reporting
  • Liaise with Group Accounting & Reporting as well as the CoE and FSS
  • Manage Treasury function and processes in accordance with the local and Global Treasury Guidelines
  • Manage local cash and liquidity planning as well as funding or investment needs
  • Manage local bank relationships and ensure compliance with counterparty limits
  • Evaluate FX exposures and ensure accurate hedging processes
  • Perform bank reconciliations and monitor bank conditions, ensuring best return on deposits
  • Manage the bank/insurance guarantee process, in collaboration with the Head of Commercial & Procurement
  • Oversee payment processes and ensure payment security
  • Ensure proper alignment with timely and accurate reporting to Global Treasury
  • Tax and Regulatory Obligations: Ensure all business activities comply with local tax laws and regulation and that Schindler UK and Ireland acts within the various national jurisdictions
  • Make all statutory disclosures in tax returns and reports
  • Ensure all cross-border transactions comply with the framework of the international (and Group’s) accepted arm’s-length-principle
  • Develop adequate procedures and plan to utilize tax incentives that are transparent, published and/or endorsed by its host jurisdiction while fully complying with local tax requirements, e.g., capital Allowances, RDEC, WDA
  • Calculate (current / deferred) tax liabilities (including provisions) and report tax accounts adequately
  • Ensure accuracy and completeness of tax positions in the local financial statements
  • Establish and maintain local transfer pricing (TP) file and related documentation (e.g., intercompany agreements)
  • Align local TP File with Group Master File
  • Manage local tax audits and inform/involve Global Tax immediately
  • Preparation and filing of all income and VAT/sales tax returns to meet local filing requirements and deadlines.
  • Monitor local tax developments and ensure cooperation with local tax authorities and other relevant bodies in a proactive, open, and transparent way as well as identify potential risks (e.g., inaccuracies or a change in tax law)
  • Support and inform Global Tax in any tax-related matters
  • Manage interface with outsourced expert advisors
  • Finance partner to the dual brand operational lead
  • Holds responsibility for all finance matters including local team leadership, finance controlling, networking capital management and other finance matters as needed
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual performance reports across all key KPIs for Dual Brands; Understand the underlying performance of the business, significant variances from budgets, key performance indicators as well as proposing action plans to mitigate potential gaps
  • All employees are required to work in accordance with established Company Occupational Health and Safety policies and procedures to ensure compliance with current UK legal requirements and Schindler Group safety requirements 
  • Employees must comply with Company Health & Safety requirements and set a personal example of safe behaviour
  • Employees will be required to contribute to the Company safety objectives, where necessary by maintaining/monitoring current safety systems under their direct control and implementing agreed changes (where applicable) to Schindler Ltd occupational health and safety management system
  • FP&A, Shared Services and Continuous Improvement: Provide management reporting and transactional processing needs to various internal stakeholders
  • Using various platforms (largely PowerBI), provide key reports for business overview to key stakeholders
  • Identify opportunities and instigate consolidation of disparate transactional processes from across the business into a shared services hub; with identified and reported SLAs
  • Ensure consistent documentation of all tasks and activities according to internal policies
  • Continuously review and improve finance processes and controls
 

Candidate Requirements:

  • Passionate about leadership, influencing and establishing enterprise value that finance can contribute within an organisation
  • Significant interaction with key stakeholders across the business, so strong and clear communication (verbal and written) is a must
  • The ability to manage multi-functional teams in multiple locations effectively
  • Strong administrative and financial background
  • Prior experience of treasury, tax, and payroll
  • Financial controlling and financial management experience 
  • Proven track record of managing multiple objectives, multi-site teams and a matrix organisation
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships across the organisation 
  • Proven track record of delivering process improvements projects and delivering savings 
  • Leading on internal audit requirements and supporting statutory audit needs
  • At least 7 years senior finance experience and Finance professional qualification such as CIMA or ACCA
  • Proficient use of Excel. SAP experience and Power BI will be highly regarded. 
  • Construction, Services, and related industries required whilst not essential is preferred
