Escalator Service Engineer
As an Escalator Service Engineer, you'll play a key role in maintaining the safe and reliable operation of our escalator portfolio across London and the South region. Working across a range of high-profile customer sites, you'll carry out planned preventative maintenance, fault-finding, breakdown response and repair activities, helping to maximise equipment reliability and minimise downtime.
This role is critical to strengthening our escalator service capability, supporting contractual commitments and ensuring we continue to deliver exceptional service performance to our customers. Whilst escalator experience is essential, we'd be particularly interested in hearing from engineers who also have experience across lift equipment, enabling support across a broader equipment portfolio.
Your main responsibilities
- Carrying out planned preventative maintenance across a portfolio of escalator equipment in line with contractual requirements, maintenance schedules and safety standards
- Performing routine servicing, adjustments, minor repairs and component replacements to maximise equipment performance and reliability
- Responding to breakdowns, diagnosing faults and restoring equipment to service efficiently, minimising disruption for customers and end users
- Conducting operational, safety and performance checks, including motors, drives, braking systems, safety devices and power supplies
- Completing fault-finding and diagnostic activities using technical documentation, schematic drawings and appropriate testing equipment
- Carrying out routine inspections, testing and adjustments in accordance with approved maintenance procedures and industry standards
- Supporting planned standby cover and two-person working activities where required to safely undertake maintenance and repair work on key customer sites
- Identifying recurring faults, equipment issues and reliability concerns, implementing corrective actions to reduce downtime and callbacks
- Reinstating equipment safely following maintenance and repair activities
- Accurately completing service reports, maintenance records and associated documentation using company systems
- Building strong working relationships with customers, site representatives, inspectors and colleagues
- Ensuring all work is completed in accordance with company health, safety, quality and environmental procedures
Who you are
Essential
- Proven experience in escalator servicing, maintenance and fault-finding
- NVQ Level 3 in Escalator Engineering, NVQ Level 3 in Lift Engineering, or equivalent industry-recognised training and experience
- Strong electrical and mechanical fault-finding skills
- Strong diagnostic capability, with the ability to identify faults and implement effective repairs
- Ability to interpret and work from technical documentation, drawings and schematic diagrams
- Solid understanding of industry safety standards, risk assessments, safe systems of work and compliance requirements
- Experience carrying out planned preventative maintenance, breakdown attendance and repair activities
- Ability to complete service documentation, maintenance records, risk assessments and site reports accurately
- Strong commitment to safety, quality and customer service
- Good communication skills with customers, colleagues and inspectors
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team
- A full driving licence valid for use in the UK
Desirable
- Experience servicing and maintaining both escalator and lift equipment
- Experience working across multi-brand equipment
- Experience within transport, infrastructure or other high-footfall environments
- Manufacturer product training across escalator systems, with lift product experience advantageous
- Experience supporting critical customer sites and standby cover arrangements
