PURPOSE OF POSITION

 

Develop and apply elevator and escalator products to meet defined customer and company requirements, using engineering fundamentals and established practices, procedures and guidelines.  Provide design solutions to assigned safety, performance, cost, reliability, manufacturing, procurement, installation and maintenance problems.  Provide effective task and project management to accomplish specified technical objectives on time.    Support successful product line launch, change management and maintenance of existing product lines, and coordinate with R&D, Manufacturing, Procurement, Quality, Suppliers and other functions as needed.  Participate in the development of new techniques, processes, layouts, and the identification of new equipment and tooling to improve process flow, reduce cost and eliminate defects. 

 

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.  Other duties may be assigned. 

 

  • Design, modify, and/or apply components, systems and processes using engineering methods and techniques to meet specified technical objectives on time and within budget.
  • Analyze and solve complex product design, application, manufacturing, installation and service problems requiring research, technical analysis, creativity, and experience.
  • Lead other engineers and support personnel to carry out specific tasks to meet customer needs and company objectives on time and within budget.
  • Implement defect prevention procedures or processes in product design or application.
  • Analyze new technologies and recommend application in elevator and escalator products.
  • Provide effective task and process planning and implementation to accomplish specified technical objectives on time.
  • Present technical reports and findings to Schindler management and internal customers.
  • Develop and maintain documentation as required.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as dictated by department.

POSITION SPECIFICATIONS

 

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Education/Experience:

B.S. in Engineering required.  Minimum two years of engineering experience required.  Working knowledge of design procedures and project management.  Knowledge of engineering fundamentals and technologies related to elevator or escalator system.

 

Language Ability:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

 

Math Ability:

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

 

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables where no standardization exists.  Ability to read and interpret Engineering drawings and blueprints for materials and specifications.

 

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be proficient with CAD, MS Word, Excel, Project and PowerPoint.  SAP experience preferred.

 

Certificates and Licenses:

No certifications required. 

 

Travel: 

Varies by position.  <5% - 30%. 

 

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT
