Category Manager (Mechanics & Commodities)

Mobility is the goal

Responsible for driving the strategy for all mechanics categories including commodities to align with business goals (focus on cost, quality & delivery). This position will have responsibility for the mechanical SSO budget.

 

Develop Door & Entrance strategy to align with business needs

  • Work closely with internal operations and drive MvB decisions
  • Create influence with global team to drive SEC initiatives

 

Team Leadership & People Development

  • Manage & motivate direct reports
  • Resource planning to meet business goals
  • Managing team progress toward goals and future planning including own portfolio

 

Develop & implement clear Mechanics/Commodity strategies for all key categories to support growth & profitability targets

  • Rails, fillers, D&E, carbon & stainless steel, metal fab, machining etc
  • Supplier identification & evaluation
  • Risk mitigation
  • Commodity vs variable product lines
  • Local vs LCC sourcing (evaluate all key LCC options – Asia, India and Brazil + EU)
  • Create leverage on key product lines (2+1 etc)
  • Support all product initiatives and provide direction and improvements to product teams

 

Communication

  • Ability to influence within organization (cross functional and product specific)
  • Create buy in for category strategy development
  • Clearly expresses ideas in a concise manner

 

Develop Tools and Forums to Enable Detailed Cost Analysis Across Team for Improved Leverage

  • CCQL Lead for metal fab category
  • CBOM’s
  • Benchmarking / RFP / Workshops
  • Should Cost / Analytics
  • Logistics
  • Process Best Practice
  • Tariffs / Duties
  • Standardization or sub-standardization
  • TCO
  • Deliver key metrics – quality, delivery and cost

 

Processes & Systems

  • Rationale thinker & problem solver
  • Drive efficiencies in business practices (Supply On, WMS, Lead Times, Working Capital etc)

 

Category strategy development & implementation to support growth & profitability targets.

  • Work closely with internal operations and drive MvB decisions

  • Align product categories with supplier capabilities
  • Develop leverage on key product lines (2+1)
  • Supplier identification & evaluation
  • Support all product initiatives and provide direction and improvements to product teams

Cost Analysis

  • Costed Bills of Materials (CBOM’s)
  • Benchmarking / Request for Quotations (RFQ) / Workshops
  • Should Cost / Analytics
  • Logistics
  • Process Best Practice
  • Tariffs / Duties
  • Total Cost of Ownership (TCO)
  • Identify cost opportunities through comparison of  product and platform specifications across different regions
  • Compare full bills of material for cost differences between components & sub-assemblies for different regions
  • All commercial negotiations including contracts
  • Deliver on key metrics – quality, delivery and cost

 

Ensure Component Order Specification (COS) alignment with supplier pricing models for configured (variable pricing) parts to drive improved pricing accuracy.

Mobility needs you

  • Mechanical Engineering - Bachelor’s Degree &/or Work Experience
  • Technical Aptitude – Drawings, Specs, Manufacturing
  • International / Global Sourcing Experience
  • People Management/Development & Team Leadership
  • Category Sourcing Strategy Development, Negotiation & Implementation
  • Target Driven – History of Exceeding Goals
  • Ability to travel 20%+
  • Elevator Industry Experience
  • Supply Chain – Forecasting, Inventory Management
  • 6 Sigma, Lean, Quality & other technical qualifications or experience
  • CIPS Certification or equivalent
  • Metal Fabrication Sourcing / Manufacturing (welding, rolling, machining, galv, laser etc)
  • Effective Communication at All Levels – Written, Verbal & Presentation
  • Direct Category Sourcing Responsibility & Strategy Development
  • Standard Software Systems including SAP, ERP, MRP, WMS etc
